Eye Examination
We rely on our eyesight in almost every aspect of our daily lives, which makes having regular eye examinations essential for maintaining good vision and eye health.
Official guidelines advise that you should have your vision checked every two years, however it may be necessary to have more regular examinations depending on your age and medical history.
The eye examination
We provide NHS and private eye examinations. These are tailored specifically to each patient, taking anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes according to your individual needs. If your child needs an eye exam, our experienced optometrists can also adapt it by using picture charts instead of letters if necessary and will take their time to explain each test, so they feel completely at ease.
A routine eye exam consists of a number of tests to check for any changes in vision, how well your eyes are working together, and your eye health.
To ensure you have a comprehensive eye exam, we do recommend that adults also have an OCT (optical coherence tomography) scan, which provides a more in depth view of the back of the eye than standard retinal photography. This enables early detection of potentially sight threatening eye conditions like macular degeneration and glaucoma. The scan is non-invasive, quick and can be performed at a distance, making it COVID-19 safe too.
The results
We pride ourselves on ensuring that our patients are supported through every step of their eyecare journey, whether you need vision correction, hospital referrals or no treatment at all.
Following your eye exam, all results will be discussed with you in detail to ensure you understand any changes in your vision and the next treatment steps if applicable, including your next advised check-up date.
If you do require a prescription, our helpful team will guide you with selecting the right frames and lenses for your visual and lifestyle needs, or explain the range of contact lenses we also offer if you would prefer to wear them instead.
Aftercare
As part of the continued aftercare service, we always check that you’re comfortable and have the clearest possible vision when you collect your spectacles or contact lenses.
This includes making sure that your frames fit properly, making any necessary adjustments, ensure your lenses are in pristine condition and that you are completely happy with your purchase. If you choose contact lenses, our friendly team will be on hand to teach you how to insert and remove them, to ensure you have a good fit and that you’re comfortable with them before you leave.
If you have any problems with your spectacles or contact lenses at any point thereafter, we are always available to have a look at them for you to resolve any issues.
